Renaming assets in the resource library

Allow renaming pasted content in the resource library, please

Everybody loves being able to conveniently cut and paste image content from other apps right into Hype, rather than going the export-import route. But once the asset is in the resource library, there is no other way of identifying the content than to preview using the space bar or dragging the asset to the canvas, since the name is auto-generated .

Since Hype creates a file for each pasted asset anyway, organizing files by being able to rename them would be such a welcome feature, don’t you think?

This would be really:
Important (,if not)
Can't use Hype without it

I seconded the request for better resource library management.

Meanwhile, there's a workaround I've come to use. One way of renaming files without removing and re-adding them to the resource's library. I drag them in from a source folder where I collect all my project files in on a project by project basis. Rename the file in your ingestion folder, then hit the reload option in th resources tab on that specific resource. Hype checks the file based on a fingerprint (MD5 string) rather than the name, so if it's been renamed, it updates accordingly.

PS: This implies placing files in a folder first. Pasted images are typically converted to PNG, which is not a good practice as they end up larger than necessary. So, in my opinion, using a folder with exported assets from your design/art source and dragging them in from there is a better workflow.

Thanks for the feedback! The Resources Library definitely is ripe for several improvements like this .

Sorry for my late reply, haven't been here for a while since my OP. That’s really cool, Max! Thanks for sharing. Still, renaming would be nice, as I use Adobe Illustrator that allows for pasting SVG only, which comes in really handy most of the time.
