Moving animation with 4 pictures

Hello,

I would like to animate 4 different pictures to achieve a moving effect - see the gift. At the moment I use opacity to show and hide the pictures after each other. But I guess there is a better way to achieve this approach. Fo me it is important that the moving looks so far natural as possible.

If there is a better way, could somebody tell me more about it, please? I would appreciate it very much.
