Interesting development on the Flash front: Chrome blocking non essential Flash embeds

(Warren Adams-Ockrassa) #1

As of tomorrow, Chrome is hosing autoplay on Flash for any content not directly related to a given page:

From the article:

That means that videos and animations in ads using Adobe’s Flash technology will no longer autoplay in the world’s most-used browser. Ads using HTML5, on the other hand, will continue to work.

What this means in practical terms is that Flash-driven advertising content is effectively dead.

Flash and I have a history, and it’s not a good one; so the song ‘Ding-Dong, the Witch is Dead’ has been running through my head all day. Viva la Hype!

Here’s a bit more detail:

Viva la Hype indeed!

So I think they should have named Animate CC to “FlashBack” because from the initial sneak peek it looks to be more of the same with stock images.
