Imported MP4 videos no longer render on macOS 27.0.1

I have been creating small videos with Hype for many months. I import MP4 video files, add text animations, and then export the result as a video (30 fps, H.264, 4000 Kbit/s).

This has always worked perfectly until I updated to macOS 27.0.1. Since the update, the imported video is no longer rendered at all. Instead, I only get a white background, while the text animations are rendered correctly.

Is this a known issue with Hype and macOS 27.0.1? Has anyone else experienced the same problem or found a workaround?

That's odd -- do you think you could send us the Hype file and your MP4 using the built in Help > Report an Issue... menu?

I also use hype for things like that. But export the animations without the video (use transparent background) as a png sequence. Use QuickTime to convert this into a video file with alpha channel and finally put the animation and video together with fcpx, the result: Here on youtube

Sure, no problem. I have just submitted the Hype file and the MP4 using Help > Report an Issue....

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, even exporting the animation as a PNG sequence produces a defective result.

This is an issue with macOS 27 where videos that are in any 'movie' export do not show. This includes Video, animated GIF, animated PNG, and PNG Sequence.

We have a workaround that will be available soon, but please feel free to give it a try by downloading this direct download build (v4.1.22):

https://tumult.com/hype/download/Hype-784.dmg

Let me know if that solves it for you or if you hit any issues. Even if you're not on macOS 27 you're welcome to try to make sure video exports with a video inside still are shown. Thank you!

Hi Jonathan,

i just tested it, and the video is rendering correctly again, including the animations.

Thank you very much for the quick fix and for looking into the problem!

Great, thanks for the positive acknowledgment on the fix!
