I’ve been seeing a lot of creative video styles on TikTok — things like quick cuts, swipe transitions, text popping in with motion, that kind of stuff. It made me think: has anyone here tried building similar effects in Hype?
I’m not talking about copying the whole TikTok format, but more about experimenting with those punchy visuals using Hype’s timelines, symbols, or even a bit of JS. Does Hype hold up well for that kind of fast-paced animation? Any challenges you ran into or cool results you’ve had?
Would be great to see examples or hear how others are approaching this — even if it’s just for fun or prototyping.
Actually, right before checking on the Hype forum, I was using it to make an animated gif… pronounced like the peanut butter. So, Hype's been useful with video creation. With some improvements, like the audio issue, it could be even better.
Although, that is a new issue. It's been failing while exporting those animated thingies. So, if it crashes again, I can send in that bug report.
You're right about Hype not having built-in templates, but I guess that's also part of the fun — building everything from scratch forces you to get creative. I’ve been playing around with timeline-based transitions like fast swipes, bouncy text reveals, and animated overlays to mimic that TikTok-style punch. It’s not always smooth, especially when trying to sync motion with sound, but the flexibility Hype gives is pretty solid.
Really cool to hear you've used Hype in your video workflow! That “Coconut” template and line draw effect sound like exactly the kind of thing I’ve been thinking about. I’ll definitely check out your videos. Also, good to know about performance improving with the M4 Mac mini. I’m still on an older machine, so that might be part of my lag during heavier animations.
