How to copy a symbol and then change that symbol without it affecting the other symbol

I’m trying to create two symbols but when I copy, the changes I make in one are copied in the other. I know this is supposed to happen, but how do I get the symbol on it’s own (other than creating a new one)?

Duplicate it. Menu->Symbol->Make Duplicate Symbol
