Cant get to the little edit button

I bring in a lot of text and then lay it out but as the text box gets to the bottom of the screen it's increasingly hard to get to the edit button because it blocked by the timeline

I would recommend defining a shortcut for the menu item 'Edit > Edit Element's Inner HTML'. You can easily do this in 'System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> App Shortcuts'. After that, you'll no longer have to deal with the annoying search for the Edit button.
